Dice Wars is a unique new turn-based strategy game from Powerise Interactive. Using nothing but dice and a randomly generated territory map made of hexagons, the game is similar in gameplay to that of the board game, Risk, though much simpler and quicker to play. The objective is to conquer all territories and eliminate all your opponents by attacking them with dice.
Support Single and Multi-Player games. The single-player game may be played with up to five (5) computer opponents, selectable at the games main menu. Simply choose a number and let the game begin. The Multi-Player modes support play against your friends on same machine.
Each turn you may attack any opponents territory from one of your adjacent territories as long as your territory has more than one (1) die on it; and you may attack as many territories as you wish. Your turn ends when you click the "End Turn" button.
The rules of combat between two adjacent territories are simple: all dice on the attacking territory are thrown and the total number of pips are added and compared against the total of throwing all dice from the defending territory. If the attackers total is greater than the defenders, all attacking dice (minus one) move onto the defenders territory thus capturing it, and the defender dice for that territory are all removed. If the defenders total is greater than or equal to the attackers total, the attacker loses all but one die for that territory.
No movement of dice is allowed between territories other than by attacking as noted above. At the conclusion of each turn, the greatest number of adjoining territories you have is calculated, and you are awarded a bonus of that number of dice. They are then automatically and randomly placed throughout all of your territories, up to a maximum of eight (8) dice on a single territory.
Good Luck.
Pros and cons of Dice Wars app for iPhone and iPad
Dice Wars app good for
There are some problems but this app is still good when it works!!
Nice app, but it has a bug. Sometimes the number of my areas is wrong. Less then it is. And the second problem is animation. Disabling is very bad. In another sides good job. Please fix this bugs.
I enjoy this game very much, cant think of any improvments but to more evenly distribute reinforcements. Thanks
There are a lot of single star reviews but the game is entertaining enough to kill about an hour at a time. Dont expect a lot and its worth the money.
Could be worth more if the updated and maybe added stats or something.
Some bad moments
clunky, buggy, it does not really behave the way I think it should
Do not waste your money! The game is broken (connected tiles do not add up correctly, number of dice added is incorrect). You can only play with a maximum of 6 factions. And the music is annoying. The graphics look bad. And the roll interface is unnecessarily slow and intrusive.
Algorithms for calculation are *WAY* off.
Maps are not varied in shape in the slightest - essentially the same map each time.
This game is similar to the flash game of DiceWars game by Game Design.
But the rules have significant differences that hinder game play.
I do not like how it reallocates replacement dice.
It appears to favor large stacks rather than random distribution.
And it appears to sometimes attempt to allocate dice replacement to a full stack causing the extra dice to not be used, rather than placing the dice on stacks that could use them.
This makes for a very unbalanced game that becomes more chance than skill.
Wrote this review for Version 1.3. Perhaps hopefully problems will be fixed in future versions.
This game is innacurate. Contiguous areas are usually not counted before reinforcements are supplied nullifying the entire point of the game.
Being a big fan of the flash-based Dice Wars game, I thought this would be the perfect app for me. The presentation (sound, graphics, and controls) are top notch, and nicely recreate the flash game. However as mentioned by other reviewers, this game has bugs that have been unaddressed through multiple updates and really ruin the game. The calculation and allocation of reinforcements is frequently incorrect and makes the game frustrating rather than fun. Avoid this game until these bugs are fixed.
If these bugs were fixed it would change my personal rating to 4+ stars. A perfect 5 if they could make it easier to find a decent starting map. The seemingly completely random starting placement makes it a little tough to find a good starting map, but Id overlook that minor flaw if the reinforcement bugs were fixed.
